Thoughts on Timepiece!
My usual thoughts on novels involved spoilers and all, but for Timepiece, spoilers are kept to minimal. There are only gonna be little spoilers, like the relationships that progressed in this book, but little about the main plot.:)
-

First of all, let me start off by saying Timepiece is the sequel to Hourglass by Myra McEntire, and there is a third book recently sold, INFINITYGLASS http://www.hypable.com/2012/05/23/myra-mcentire-sells-infintyglass-the-third-hourglass-novel-to-egmont-usa/ (I now know the meaning to that word), set for a year later. I know right, how am I ever gonna survive the wait?!

It has been more than 6 months since I picked up Hourglass, and finished that book in a day last August, and since then I had reread it a couple of times. I had loved Emerson's narration and her relationship with Michael, and hence I was a little nervous when Timepiece was to be in Kaleb's pov. I loved Kaleb in Hourglass! But I just wasn't sure at first will the Kaleb pov feels the same way as Hourglass, and it did! It's as good, it's better in ways! I came to love Kaleb's pov so much at the end of Timepiece, that I couldn't bear to part w/ it!

I was also nervous because I thought Myra McEntire was going to throw in the usual YA love triangle kind of thing to the Hourglass series, and let me say, HOLY, I'm so glad she did not! When Kaleb came to the realisation that he loved Em as a sister, a best friend, I was so glad, and I totally appreciated that love! And I was all along a Team Michael for Emerson girl. :)

And then Lily came along more in the book, the straight, daring, brave, loyal and just being herself girl. I honestly adored Lily's character. We learnt so much more about her in Timepiece, her past, her character, her ability. The way she just stays true to herself, her friends, her words, she's really a miracle. Like Kaleb had described her. While Michael, Em and Kaleb had their downsides respectively, Lily was the strong one standing, keeping things logical and stable on the surface.

Her character this way just matches with Kaleb so, so well. She could lift off walls from Kaleb like no one else could for a while. And that totally hits Kaleb's heart, mine too. They make such a great pair together. And obviously, with Kaleb as the narrator this time around, we also got more exposed to his true inner-self. Not so carefree like on the outside, but also pain, desolation on the inside. It made me ached for him, and I'm glad Lily and things that happened along the way through Timepiece helped him. The background relationship between Kaleb with his dad as well as Michael was also something I was keen to read on. I'm honestly glad to see Kaleb finally able to love his Dad truly, with their trust, and his understanding with Michael. Love that brotherhood.

As for the plot, I'm not giving anything away. Nothing. Except 1 word. Infinityglass. There were stunning realisations and shocking truths thrown in, and I find myself gasping a lot towards the end. With all the theories and information relating to it and more, to time-slip, to the new characters, there are a whole wide range of possibilities things could stretch to! I don't even want to think about it for I am SO sure Myra WILL SURPRISE US differently again in book three, Infinityglass.

For now I'm contented with the awesomeness Timepiece offered, such well and finely written story. I can't wait, and am almost afraid to see how amazing the next book will be, not to mention to seeing Kaleb, Lily, Michael and Em, and all the others soon again (a year later)! Great job, Myra! :)

P.S. Love Timepiece's cover, a lot! <3
